Nabarupa is a social drama where a woman, Chitra has to face much difficulty for holding her job in the police department. Chitra is a well trained and honest sub inspector. She had a good record of arresting criminals. She used to take care of her family with her salary. She got married to a writer, Moloy who had happily accepted Chitra’s profession at the beginning. But with time, he got irritated and angry with Chitra’s late night and dangerous duties. This created misunderstanding between them and Chitra lastly sacrificed her job to maintain peace in her life. Then Chitra’s colleagues Mr. Binoy and Shanta explained everything and thus removed all the misunderstandings from Moloy’s mind. The film ends with a happy note where Moloy and Chitra and Chitra’s sister, Kalyani and Subir started their life in a new way with a promotion in Chitra’s job.
